- September Twilight Steven Slate is a producer, mixer, and mastering engineer in Los Angeles. Nicknamed "Bang" due to his ability to pack an extreme amount of punch in his mixes and masters, Steven has become one of the most highly praised new studio engineers in the country. Steven’s unique techniques for getting extremely detailed sounds from their source have helped him become a skilled tracking engineer. His mixes have been described as wide, deep, rich, and BIG sounding. He has also been known to “save” poorly recorded tracks with his great mixing abilities. His drum sounds have been so well praised, that other top producers and mix engineers began to buy his drums samples for their own use. Due to this success, he released STEVEN SLATE DRUMS, a top selling drum sample CD in December 2006. Steven is also known for coming up with the concept for the Folcrom passive mixer used by mixers such as Mike Shipley, who recently mixed Nickelback's platinum record, "All That Remains". After years of training his ears, Steven has now become a very in-demand mastering engineer as well. While many final song masters lose the depth, punch, impact, and dynamics of their original mixes, Steven has found ways to maintain these elements to provide exceptionally loud masters with minimum difference from their original sound.
Below is a selection of some of Steven's most current works, mixed and mastered at his own facilities in the beautiful Laurel Canyon hills on his custom modified Neotek Elite console with full automation. Pay careful attention to their thickness, warmth, and punch. If you would like to arrange a meeting with Steven or would like a tour of his studio, please refer to my contact information.
As a producer, Steven has taken bands to their maximum potential. His skill for arranging vocal harmonies and layering guitars has helped make good songs into great songs. Being a trained musician and songwriter himself, he can work with all members of the band to get the best performance out of each of them.
